Trying to make a tiny difference
Before I post a single message about nails, I want to mention another effort I am undertaking to make a small contribution back. As part of a fund-raising effort to help build a new school in Nepal, for the first time in my life, I have grown long hair. It's been a year and a half!
I am shaving my head to help raise money for this. We're up to over $1,000 and I'm pretty happy about that. So I am trying to start this blog by asking you to keep an open mind to making a small donation to "Room to Read" (http://www.RoomtoRead.org) or if you are in Canada you can get a tax receipt by visiting my donation page at: http://www.canadahelps.org/GivingPages/GivingPage.aspx?gpID=606
Even if you can't make a large donation let me ask you to go without a coffee for one day. I love coffee and it's hard, but skip the bought coffee or latte for just one day and donate the $4 to help make a difference in the lives of many families. Help out if you can! Thanks, Derek
My other interests in this area are helping out "micro lending" - a way to allow people (primarily women in the third world) to get on the road to self-sufficiency by allowing them to purchase a cow or a sewing machine etc to start a micro-enterprise. I'll also tell you how FlexiNail makes efforts to help those undergoing chemotherapy (which is very tough on nails as well as hair). I'll write about these more as we go along.
So hope you'll enjoy the post and contribute your thoughts as well.
